8 Energy Healing Modalities Compared From 13 Years of Practice

By Aurelija Aspen | September 11, 2026

Can energy healing actually help with something you have been struggling with, or does it simply give you another way to look at the same problem?

I have spent thirteen years exploring energy work, and now I’m happy to share my journey with you: how energy work came into my life, what it has taught me, and how it continues to inspire me.

My search for healing began when I was twenty-one, pregnant, finishing my studies, and working full-time. My body responded with severe psoriasis. I still remember thinking that the biggest issue was not how my skin looked or how itchy it was, but how anxious, insecure, and vulnerable I felt inside. I thought, “If only I could feel different.”

Looking back now, I see that period as a wake-up call that guided me towards the work I do today and, ultimately, towards my calling: helping people understand the importance of emotional and mental hygiene and the way our inner world can affect how we experience life in our bodies.

Before we get into the details, I want you to know that this article reflects my personal experience as a practitioner and is not intended to replace medical diagnosis, treatment, or professional healthcare advice.

What Can Energy Healing Help With?

Energy healing can help you feel different from within, transform limiting beliefs at their core, support your body’s capacity to heal and change the way you experience yourself and your life.

When energy work came into my life, I wasn’t looking for a spiritual practice. I was looking for healing. I was physically unwell, and after being told that my body would not fully recover, I refused to accept that this would be my norm.

What I learned was that healing is about recalibrating the entire system: body, emotions, mind, and a deeper sense of self. When one layer changes, it creates movement in the others.

Lasting healing often asks for more than simply wanting the symptoms to disappear. It asks you to become willing to change for the better: to transform limiting beliefs, recognise emotional patterns, face uncomfortable truths, release the identities that hold you back and build the version of you who you really want to be in this world. This doesn’t often happen overnight.

Energy work became part of that process for me. It opened up a completely different way of understanding what was happening beneath the surface and, ultimately, changed the direction of my life.

Energy healing can help you feel different from within

You may have arrived here searching for energy healing, energetic recalibration or energetic alignment. These are all ways of describing the kind of inner transformation this work can support: releasing old patterns, recalibrating your energetic state, restoring greater alignment and reprogramming the patterns held within the subconscious. This is the deeper territory I became increasingly interested in as my own journey unfolded.

In this article, I’ll take you through my 13-year journey in energy work: what each modality taught me, what I found it could help with, and what fuelled my continued curiosity to learn and discover new things.

Timeline showing Aurelija Aspen's 13-year practitioner journey through 8 energy healing modalities: Spiritual Response Therapy, ThetaHealing, Emotion Code, Body Code, Belief Code, the Energetic Reprogramming Method, Timeline Healing, and Silent Counselling, from 2013 to 2025.

So, How Did It All Begin?

My search for healing took nearly four years before I found energy work, or perhaps before it found me.

The search led through many different approaches at first: modern medicine, diets based on blood tests, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, cleanses and even leech therapy. Alongside these physical approaches came books about mindset, spirituality and the connection between our inner world and our physical wellbeing. There was a growing interest in understanding what might be affecting my health, both physically and from within.

One holistic doctor in Lithuania helped me enormously with herbs and Bach Flower Remedies. My nervous system became significantly calmer, although my skin had still not fully recovered.

Looking back now, all these steps seem to have prepared the way for what came next: the idea that healing could involve more than the physical body.

At age 25, during a casual conversation, I heard about a practitioner who worked with energy. She helped people gain clarity about themselves and their lives and also worked with the energy of spaces, including homes.

At that time, my father had passed away in his home, so I invited a practitioner to work in his house.

During the session, she used a pendulum and charts, explaining what she was discovering as she worked. Although the session was focused on the house, I felt as though something heavy was being lifted from my body. I felt physically lighter.

That clear sensation of energy shifting sparked a question:

Could I learn how to do this myself?

The practitioner pointed me towards Spiritual Response Therapy (SRT), and in March 2013, I took my first energy healing course.

1. Spiritual Response Therapy: Opening the Door to the Energy World

What Spiritual Response Therapy touches is genuinely extraordinary. Its founder, Robert Detzler, mapped subconscious programs and levels of spiritual consciousness in extensive detail.

The method consists of 32 charts that include Soul Qualities, Soul Energy Programming, Higher-Level Blocks, etc.

There is a lot of information that goes beyond human understanding. I see it as a genuine map to higher realms, one you can follow to learn, explore, and go deeper, since this field of knowledge is infinite in its depth. To be honest, I feel that I only learned a small amount of it, and one day I might return to this field to explore soul consciousness and spiritual consciousness levels.

The founder, Robert Detzler, passed away the month after I began studying his work, and that timing touched me. SRT introduced me to working with subconscious patterns through muscle testing using a pendulum. The pendulum is used to indicate information within those 32 charts, allowing the healing to take place. You learn to listen to the guidance that comes through you and allow it to guide you through the charts.

A hand holding a pendulum suspended over a chart on a wooden desk, illustrating the pendulum-based muscle testing technique used in practices such as Spiritual Response Therapy.

In Spiritual Response Therapy, answers are identified through muscle testing using a pendulum.

At first, trusting the process felt strange. Over time, through practice and by experiencing changes in myself after each session, I became more confident in the process. I practised SRT intensively for three years, mostly on myself, and noticed significant changes in my inner state.

It also opened a completely new spiritual dimension for me. Eventually, I began to see a distinction between working at the level of spirituality and consciousness and addressing what I was still experiencing in my body and present life.

My consciousness was changing, but my physical experience had not completely caught up. I needed an approach that felt closer to this body, this life and the recurring emotional patterns that were still affecting me.

2. ThetaHealing®: Realising How Intuitive We All Are

In December 2015, I was walking through a snowy pine forest with my newborn son when I asked the Universe for whatever could help me heal completely. Within moments, an email arrived on my phone about a ThetaHealing training. By January 2016, I was sitting in my first ThetaHealing class.

What ThetaHealing Gave Me

ThetaHealing was created by Vianna Stibal, who witnessed an instantaneous healing of a tumour in her own body. What I find particularly valuable about this modality is its use of grounded meditation, which helps you enter a theta brainwave state.

A theta brainwave state naturally appears during light sleep, or just before falling asleep or waking up. Theta is a slow electrical brainwave pattern, generally measured between 4 and 8 Hz, and is associated with deep relaxation, light sleep and meditative states, a range confirmed by NCBI’s clinical reference on normal EEG waveforms.

In ThetaHealing, this state creates a space for higher insights, energetic awareness and receptivity. Before each ThetaHealing session, you practise a meditation to shift your brainwave activity towards the theta frequency. This can create a deeply relaxed and blissful state. With regular practice, reaching this state becomes faster and more automatic.

During deep relaxation, light sleep, or meditative states, the brain slows into theta brainwave activity.

ThetaHealing® focuses on working with limiting beliefs by asking questions, using a process called digging to reach the root of an issue.

The process also involves exploring what lessons and virtues the soul may be learning through different experiences. Another part of the practice is downloading new positive feelings, feelings that a person may have never experienced before.

The teachings also extend into working with plants, animals and non-organic objects, and discovering wider potential for using your focus and energy.

What I Found Valuable About ThetaHealing

ThetaHealing helped open my intuition, expand my consciousness and deepen my connection with the Creator, the energy of creation and pure love.

It also created a strong pathway for continued learning. I completed training in 15 different ThetaHealing classes, which gave me the opportunity to keep developing my skills and become part of a wider community of practitioners.

Most importantly, the practice strengthened my ability to trust my intuition and my own perception.

The only drawbacks I see don’t come from ThetaHealing itself but from the people who use it.

Overall, I feel deeply grateful that ThetaHealing found its way into my life. It helped me heal, deepened my awareness of how intuitive we truly are, and strengthened my confidence with muscle testing, all while keeping me open to new possibilities. It also filled me with so much love. At the time, I was not searching for another modality, but in hindsight, the Universe clearly had other plans for me.

Towards the end of 2021, Emotion Code was mentioned to me by two unconnected people from different continents, about a month and a half apart. Looking back, it reminds me that messages can come from anywhere, in the most unexpected ways and places. What matters most is your willingness and openness to see it, receive it, and act on it.

3. Emotion Code®: The Power of Structure

In December 2021, a Vietnamese woman who had trained in Emotion Code found me, became my friend, and gave me a book on Emotion Code. I read that book and immediately knew this was for me. I started my training in Emotion Code in January 2022.

Emotion Code was founded by Dr. Bradley Nelson, a holistic chiropractor. During his 18 years of practice as a chiropractor, he noticed a pattern: patients would return with the exact same spinal and structural misalignments. He realised that while chiropractic adjustments temporarily fixed the alignment, the physical body was continuously being pulled back out of place by an underlying invisible force.

Dr. Bradley Nelson discovered that about 90% of physical pain was rooted in unresolved, trapped emotional energy.

What stood out with Emotion Code was Dr. Bradley Nelson’s concept of trapped emotions in the body and the structured, accurate approach to identifying them through muscle testing. Because I was already confident with my muscle testing skills and witnessing energetic transformations, the new concept of trapped emotions systematised into a single chart skyrocketed my healing capabilities and the results people had after the healing sessions with me.

The Emotion Code is built around a single chart, divided into six rows and three columns, containing sixty emotions in total. Using muscle testing, you can identify which emotion is trapped in the body, when it became trapped, and to whom it belongs, and then release it.

Another core concept within Emotion Code is the Heart Wall®. As Dr. Bradley Nelson describes it, this is an energetic wall built around the heart from layers of trapped emotions. When that wall is released, people become able to give and receive love with more ease and joy.

Hands gently holding a heart-shaped form, representing the release of the Heart-Wall®, the energetic wall of trapped emotions described in Emotion Code®.

Releasing a Heart-Wall can feel deeply relieving, an empowering

What I experienced myself using the Emotion Code was profound clarity. Emotion Code helped me realise which emotions were mine and which were coming from the people I interacted with. It felt as though I had taken off a pair of tinted glasses and started seeing things as they really are. My body felt different; I felt much more like myself. These changes marked the beginning of major transformations in my life. Once I started seeing things clearly, I began asking myself what I wanted and how I wanted to live. I started acting on it, and my life began to change at a rapid speed.

4. Body Code®: Looking More Directly at the Body

Body Code uses the same structure and application of muscle testing as Emotion Code to find out the underlying imbalances that are causing the physical issue. But here, the information is much broader and richer compared to the single chart of emotions used in Emotion Code. Body Code includes six key areas: energies, circuits and systems, toxicity, nutrition/lifestyle, misalignments, and pathogens.

I remember that when I was studying and applying Body Code in my practice, I thought it was truly brilliant. The richness of the data and the precision it offers are absolutely marvellous, especially for those who are drawn to working with physical imbalances or seeking physical recovery.

As an advocate of emotional and mental hygiene, I found myself more drawn to working with mindset and emotional states than with physical imbalances, even though I have seen that when the emotional and mental state shifts, the physical body often improves too. When Discover Healing announced that Level 3 of the Emotion Code system was coming under the name Belief Code, I was eagerly waiting to see what new concepts it would have to offer. As soon as the Belief Code certification opened, I enrolled and began the training. This was in 2023.

If you would like to see these two modalities in practice, here is a demo session where I apply Body Code® and Belief Code® together.

5. Belief Code®: Rewriting Negative Core Belief Systems

Structurally, Belief Code is similar to Body Code, though the information and concepts differ. In order to be able to study it, you have to complete Emotion Code and Body Code trainings first and meet their criteria for certification. I have written a separate section about certifications below.

Originally developed by Gwen Legler and Marilyn Smith as Three Dimensional Therapy (often referred to as T3 Therapy or T3), this modality focused on identifying and eliminating subconscious core beliefs and replacing them with empowering ones using muscle testing. Dr. Bradley Nelson partnered with the creators and eventually integrated the methodology into their official lineup. It was officially rebranded as The Belief Code.

It organises the belief system using the analogy of a tree, encompassing faulty core beliefs, limiting beliefs, negative programs, and faulty core identities. Belief Code has a database of a few thousand limiting beliefs, each paired with its opposite, positive belief. When a negative belief is released, its positive counterpart is uploaded, or brought into the person’s conscious awareness, in its place.

I found the concept of belief systems as a tree quite interesting. I worked with Belief Code for a while, but it did not really stay with me.

6. Energetic Reprogramming Method™: The Method That Chose to Be Born

I started Belief Code training in November 2023 and began applying it in my practice. Then, in February 2024, I experienced what I can only describe as a dark night of the soul.

By that point, I had already released a great number of trapped emotions from my system, and done lots of healing with SRT, ThetaHealing®, Body Code® and Belief Code®. My energy felt deeply cleansed. But consciousness never stops growing. In early 2024, I entered a particularly intense period. Something significant was happening in my body, beyond my understanding.

I reached out to the practitioner who had first opened the door to the energy world for me and introduced me to SRT, the same one who came to release energy from my father’s house when he passed away. We had stayed in touch over the years and, since I too had entered this field, we had begun exchanging healing sessions with each other, a common and valuable practice among energy practitioners, offering mutual support and an exchange of knowledge.

Throughout those years, she had continued to practise Spiritual Response Therapy. As she worked on me, I found myself drawn back to my earliest training in that modality: Chart 6A, Master Programs, discordant energies chart. I remember even back when I first started learning SRT, that particular chart seemed to me to have great potential, but at that time I was not able to understand what that potential was about.

Having already learned to release trapped emotions through Emotion Code, I began releasing master emotional programs instead, and the shift in energy was massive. I started experimenting with this approach with my clients, inviting those already working with me through Emotion Code and Body Code to try releasing master limiting programs as well. Without exception, they reported that the shift of energy felt far stronger, and their bodies responded more intensely than before during a release.

From there, the work expanded. I began encountering emotions as programs that were not part of Emotion Code, eventually growing into a database of more than three hundred limiting master programs. It opened an entirely new dimension in my practice.

Below is a demonstration showing how the Method works.

Looking back, I can see that this was the moment everything I had learned began to combine, the depth, the structure, all of it coming together into what would become the Energetic Reprogramming Method™. I see it as a living, evolving organism. It began with master limiting programs, then expanded to include blocks to positive expression, and later, affirmations, which emerged naturally through healing work with clients.

A simple affirmation structure developed: statements built on “I allow myself to…”, “I am allowed to…”, and “everyone, including me, is allowed to…”, followed by the positive quality being called in, for example, “I allow myself to be happy” or “I am allowed to be appreciated”. By observing how the body and energy respond to these statements, restriction in the words, discomfort in saying them, it becomes possible to identify where limitations still remain.

Since then, another significant development has emerged: limiting identities. Again, I was not searching for this, it emerged naturally through healing sessions, where identity after identity surfaced, seeking release. This area is still expanding; the database now holds more than four thousand recorded limiting identities, and I believe it will eventually be structured and ready to be passed on as its own body of knowledge.

7. Timeline Healing: Healing Through the Gentleness of Meditation

Timeline Healing, developed by Sal Rachele, came into my life in 2025, after the Energetic Reprogramming Method™ already existed. A trusted colleague in this field was organising a training with him, and since the opportunity was there, I joined.

The method draws on elements of psychotherapy, past-life regression, hypnotherapy and reframing, and works through guided meditation. From a deeply relaxed, meditative state, you are guided back to a specific moment: a few seconds before a traumatic or difficult event took place.

Once you arrive at that moment, the healing happens through words. You speak to that younger part of yourself, offering protection, reassurance and love, and you use phrases such as “everything is healed, blessed and forgiven.” You install a new felt sense of safety into that moment before returning to the present. The method can also guide a person further back than this lifetime, into what is experienced as a past life.

What I valued in Timeline Healing was its gentleness. Meditation itself is relaxing, and the whole approach carries a soft, loving quality. There is nothing forceful about it. You are not extracting or releasing anything, you are simply returning to a moment and changing what that moment now holds.

8. Silent Counselling®: A Non-Verbal Path to Release

Silent Counselling was founded by Marjorie and John Cooper in Scotland. It came as a tool to help people who have experienced such deep trauma that they are unable to speak about it, offering a way to release the emotional charge held in the body and nervous system.

The method is based on pressing necessary acupressure points to help the nervous system come back to balance and support emotional release. It uses muscle testing to receive the necessary information for most of the ten steps of the session protocol. This includes checking a person’s polarity, screening for toxins (internal and external), and identifying what acupressure points need to be pressed for release. Each point is paired with breathing to help discharge what is held there. The protocol also includes an eye-rolling exercise to help anchor the change, and positive affirmations towards the end.

Silent Counselling training came to me as a bonus within a business coaching programme I was taking after the Energetic Reprogramming Method™ had come into being. To become certified, I completed twelve sessions with volunteers. During this practice, I saw that this is a quiet, gentle, non-invasive approach to support emotional well-being.

Requirements for Certifications

If you are interested in how certification for energy modalities works, I am including this section for you.

Compared with the other modalities covered in this post, the certification process for Emotion Code®, Body Code®, and Belief Code® was much more involved. With Spiritual Response Therapy, I completed the training in person and received my certification without additional practice requirements. The same was true for ThetaHealing®: you attend the training, learn and practise during the course, and complete the certification without a separate set of assignments or practice sessions afterwards. Timeline Healing followed the same pattern.

Silent Counselling training was delivered live and certification required twelve practice sessions in total afterwards for six people recorded in a portfolio for review.

The Emotion Code, Body Code, and Belief Code certifications were different. In addition to completing the online training itself, I had to complete a series of practice sessions, quizzes, required reading, and other coursework before I could become certified. There was also a six-month period in which to complete the certification requirements, which meant that the training came with a clear structure and a deadline. Alongside the coursework, each certification requires a specific number of practice sessions.

Worth celebrating, not for the paper, but for the years, knowledge, and intentions behind it.

What Thirteen Years of This Work Has Taught Me

People who begin energy work often say it feels never-ending, and in a sense, it is.
Emotional and mental hygiene works the same way as physical hygiene: taking one shower does not keep you clean for life. It is an ongoing process.

At the same time, what I have learned is that alongside feeling genuinely good in your day-to-day inner state, there comes something more: a quantum leap in consciousness. For me, this shows up as an entirely new layer of information becoming available, one that only reveals itself once I am ready, once my energy field has opened enough to hold it. This has happened to me many times now, since I have been consistently doing energy work on myself.

So to those who practise for years and do not feel that they have achieved the desired results, I can say with confidence: keep going, and maybe try something new, whether that is a different modality or a different technique, to help you see results. It is also worth checking why you are doing this work in the first place. Are you doing it because you feel broken, or because it has become a form of maintenance, something you do for yourself the way you would care for anything else you value? These are very different starting points, and so much of it comes down to identity: which version of yourself you are identifying with. Identifying with the version you want to become, rather than with what feels wrong, changes the work itself.

Real, massive shifts in consciousness and awareness do come, along with the unshakable inner stability and the new reality they bring. But real as these shifts are, they are also easy to miss while they are happening, which is exactly why I take session reports with every session. Once a problem is resolved, we tend to forget how we felt before it was addressed. Without a record of where someone started, it is easy to lose sight of how far they have actually come. Even physical pain works this way: once it lifts, it fades quickly from memory.

Looking back at the starting point gives you real proof of your own growth, something to genuinely appreciate yourself for, and that recognition is what keeps you inspired to continue choosing growth.

Today I am thirty-nine. What has changed most is not something I can easily put into words, an inner steadiness that stays with me even when things around me are difficult, a quiet knowing that everything is divinely guided. I have also become far more selective: with whom I spend my time, and where I invest my energy and attention.

If I could speak to the twenty-one-year-old woman I described at the start of this article, struggling with her skin and so much more, I would tell her: you will succeed. A miraculous journey is waiting for you, more than you can imagine right now. And if you are the one struggling today, reading this, the same is true for you. A miraculous journey is ahead of you too. The only thing left is to take the step into it.

Everyone is welcome on an energy healing journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does energy healing actually work?

In my experience, yes. But what it helps with depends very much on what you want to achieve. For example, if you want to build a business, energy work can help you release inner blocks, resistance and emotional or mental limitations that may be holding you back. But it will not build the business for you. You still need to take action, develop your skills and make the necessary steps. For me, energy healing has been a powerful part of my own healing journey, including healing in my physical body. So I can only speak from my experience, and from that perspective, my answer is yes.

Is energy healing worth the time and money?

For me, absolutely. I see energy work as an investment in yourself, your growth and your emotional and mental wellbeing. One of the things I value most about this work is that it can help us become conscious of patterns, limitations and lessons that we might otherwise repeat for years. I also believe that life can be lived much more consciously when we are willing to work through what keeps us stuck. So when someone asks me whether energy healing is worth the investment, I sometimes think the better question is: how much is it costing you to remain where you are? Of course, everyone needs to decide for themselves what feels valuable and worthwhile. But from my own experience, energy work has added tremendous value to my life.

What are some common misconceptions about energy healing?

One misconception is that energy healing replaces other parts of life. It doesn’t. It doesn’t replace human connection. Energy work can help you feel more at ease within yourself and others, but it doesn’t replace social life. It also doesn’t mean eliminating the material world or economic exchange either. We are having a physical experience, and material things are also part of that experience. And it doesn’t replace skills or action. We are here to learn, practise, make decisions and take action. For me, energy healing is about helping us return to greater coherence and balance, so that we can approach life, make decisions and take action from a different space.

What are the red flags when choosing an energy healing practitioner?

First, I would pay attention to how you feel around the practitioner and whether their approach feels right for you. For me, mutual respect is essential. A practitioner should respect your boundaries, your choices and your experience. If that respect is missing, I would consider it a red flag.

Can you learn energy healing online?

Yes, absolutely. I learned around half of the modalities I studied online. Online learning has also become a very common way of studying since the COVID-19 pandemic, and I personally find it a very practical option. I also work with people from different parts of the world online, and in my experience, energy healing sessions work beautifully this way.

Is energy healing a good career path?

I believe it can be a very promising path because this work is needed. But I would not recommend starting energy healing with the idea of building a career from it. First, learn it for yourself. See how it feels. Do you resonate with the work? Does practising it bring you joy? Does it bring value to your own life? And when you start practising with others, do you feel that this is something you genuinely enjoy? I have seen people complete their training and then never use it because they realised it wasn’t for them. Others continued, kept learning, exploring and growing in this field. For me, it really comes down to your inner calling. So if you are curious about energy healing, I would absolutely recommend exploring it. Start learning, experience it for yourself, and see where it takes you. Maybe you will discover that it is simply something valuable for your own life. Or maybe you will discover that it is your calling.

How much does energy healing certification cost?

In my experience, energy healing certification can start from around €300 and go up to several thousand euros. The cost depends on the length of the training, its intensity, the depth of the material and how much knowledge and practice is included. Some certifications can be completed with a relatively small investment, while following a longer training pathway and completing multiple levels or modalities can become a much larger investment over time. I would always recommend doing your own research before choosing a training, because prices and certification requirements can vary significantly between modalities and training providers.
